Chelsea suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 by Brighton. Despite a stunning goal from Jorginho, it was not enough to prevent the Blues from slipping to their fourth consecutive game without a win in the league.
Brighton opened the scoring in the 14th minute thanks to a sensational strike from Pascal Gross. The German midfielder received the ball on the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful shot that flew past Kepa Arrizabalaga and into the top corner.
Chelsea responded well and equalized just six minutes later through Jorginho. The Italian midfielder picked up the ball just outside the box and curled a magnificent effort past Robert Sanchez and into the bottom corner.
However, Brighton continued to cause problems for the visitors and regained the lead in the 50th minute through Leandro Trossard. The Belgian winger received the ball on the left-hand side of the area before cutting inside and firing a shot that deflected off Reece James and into the net.
Chelsea pushed for an equalizer in the final stages of the game but were unable to find a way past the resolute Brighton defense. The defeat leaves the Blues in fifth place, three points behind fourth-placed West Ham and nine points behind third-placed Leicester.
The performance will be a huge concern for manager Thomas Tuchel, who has now seen his side fail to win any of their last four league games. Chelsea will need to quickly turn their form around if they are to secure a top-four finish and qualify for next season's Champions League.
